UK Cardinal: Britons are obsessed with sex

(December 22) In what may be an attempt to ward off accusations that his views are too liberal, the head of Scotland's Roman Catholic Church lashed out at gay unions and unmarried couples who live together. Cardinal Keith O'Brien also claimed to be worried the country was too sexed-up and in danger of descending into a "bacchanalian state."

German city introduces sex tax

(December 22) The German city of Cologne plans to meet revenue shortfalls with a sex tax on brothels, erotic sauna clubs and massage salons. "We are a big city and because of this have a lot of these type of offers," said a city spokesperson. "We estimate revenue of up to two million euros." For brothels, the tax will work out at 150 euros per bed per month.

Condit sues tabloids over sex 'slander'

(December 21) Former Rep. Gary Condit sued The National Enquirer and other tabloids for $209 million on Friday, alleging they falsely connected him with the 2001 murder of federal intern Chandra Levy. The lawsuit claims the tabloids failed to reasonably investigate the stories and paid sources for false statements "in a calculated effort" to boost profits.
