Have their ever been any instances where the phone provider illegally recorded the call and then tried to extort money?

I haven't heard of that, but that's an interesting point.

Also, it could happen at massage parlours and with prostitution in general.

I think it's very unlikely if the party is established in either of these businesses and profiting from it.

Well, I have not actually heard about that but there is possibility. People can do anything for money.

So far, I have'nt encountered such thing. If ever time comes that I'll become a victim of illegal recording, I'll surely sue them. There are many ways to earn money nowadays.
